Local artist, Mark VanderVinne, will offer 2 different workshops at the Chesterton Art Center this spring.
Each workshop will consist of 2 Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The first workshop, "Composing the Landscape", will be held Saturday, April 27 and May 4. "Understanding Color", the second workshop, will be held Saturday, May 11 and May 18.
"Understanding Color", is a workshop intended to guide students on how to see, mix and use color to create harmony and emotion in their art work. On the first Saturday (May 11), students will learn the four properties of color, and work on a variety of exercises to better understand them. Mark will also discuss how artists use color to accentuate mood and focal areas. The second Saturday (May 18) will allow time for students to apply the theories to an individual piece of art - whatever the student would like to create.
Both of these workshops are open to all painting and drawing media, including oils, acrylics, watercolor and pastel. Because each media has its own technique and approach, some knowledge and previous experience in the media of choice is requested. Participants need to bring 3-4 photographs to work from, along with a fairly extensive palette of colors (black and white included). These classes are not for beginners. Some experience is necessary.
The cost for each workshop is $150 for members of the Chesterton Art Center and $175 for non-members. Seating is limited. To register, please contact the Chesterton Art Center at 219-926-4711. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton, IN 46304.
