Jennifer Martin will be hosting the December children’s art classes at the Chesterton Art Center starting Monday, December 4. The goal is to introduce children to various artists, their styles and techniques, with projects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all ages and skill levels. Several mediums will be used including drawing, painting, papier mache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more. The schedule of classes is as follows:
Monday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 4-5 year-olds
Monday 3:30-5 p.m., After School (Beginner) 5-8 year-olds
Tuesday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 3-4 year-olds
Tuesday 3:30-5 p.m., After School (Intermediate) 6-9 year-olds
Wednesday 11-12 a.m., Preschool 4-5 year-olds
Wednesday 1-2:30 p.m., Homeschool 8-15 year-olds
Wednesday 3:30-5 p.m., After School (Intermediate) 6-9 year-olds
Thursday 3:30-5 p.m., After School (Advanced) 8-12 year-olds
Thursday 5:15-6:45 p.m., After School (Advanced Painting) 10-16 year-olds
Each month, a different artist will be featured. The featured artist for December is Friedensreich Hundertwasser who was an Austrian-born artist known for his architecture. He was opposed to any sort of standardization or “straight lines”, which made for some very creative buildings. Hundertwasser will be the inspiration for each weekly project.
Tuition is $90 per month for after school and home school students (the member rate is $70), and $75 for preschool students (the member rate is $55). Families must be current members of the Chesterton Art Center to receive the member rate. Supplies and a snack are included. Students must be registered and paid for before the start of each month.
