Children's Classes

Jennifer Martin will teach five different summer art camps for children at the Art Center beginning June 15.

Each camp is Monday through Thursday and will include 3-4 projects with a canvas painting related to the theme of the week. Classes for children ages 4-8 will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and classes for children ages 9-13 will be from 11:30 am. to 1:30 p.m.

The calendar for summer camps is: June 15-18, Indian Art; June 22-25, Splatter Art; July 13-16, Pop and Bubble Art; July 20-23, Dot and Circle Art; Aug. 3-6, Wearable Art.
Each week children will go home with 3-4 projects, including a canvas painting related to the theme. The cost for each week is $65, with members receiving a $5 discount. 

    The cost is $10 per child, with a minimum of 10 children. The maximum party size is 20 children. Goodie bags may be added on for an additional $3 per child. Once the party date has been approved, a $50 deposit will be required to hold the date. The deposit will go towards the total balance due on the day of the party.     Each party will include a 2-hour time slot on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Guests will receive a stretched canvas painting (12" x 12" size, with a theme determined by the birthday boy/girl) and a small craft to take home. The Art Center will provide a picture frame photo booth for fun pictures of the children at the event, and a special gift for the birthday child. Jennifer Martin, the children's art instructor at the Chesterton Art Center, will organize and lead the party. While the Art Center will provide decorations for the classroom, the parents are responsible for food, drink, plates, etc., as well as balloons, if desired. 

The Chesterton Art Center is now hosting 
children's birthday parties for kids ages 3 and up. 
    Jennifer Martin will be starting children's art classes at the Chesterton Art Center on Tuesday, September 2 and will run through the end of the school year. 

    The goal is to introduce children to various artists, their styles and techniques, with projects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all ages and skill levels. Several mediums will be used including drawing, painting, papier mache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more. The schedule of classes is as follows:

Monday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 4-5 year-olds
Monday 3:30-5 p.m., Beginning 6-9 year-olds
Tuesday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 3-4 year-olds
Tuesday 3:30-5 p.m., Beginning 5-7 year-olds
Wednesday 3:30-5 p.m., Intermediate 6-11 year-olds
Thursday 3:30-5 p.m., Advanced 7-10 year-olds
Thursday 5:15-6:45 p.m., Beginning 9-14 year-olds
Thursday 7-8:30 p.m., Advanced 11-16 year-olds        

    Tuition is $75 per month for after school students and $60 for preschool students. Supplies are included. There is a $5 a month discount for members of the Chesterton Art Center.

​  During the month of May, the children will be studying the art of George Rodrigue, a Cajun artist best known for blue dog paintings. They will be doing some printmaking in the theme of cats and dogs along with other canvas projects.  

    Children ages 3-16 are welcome to participate and may start classes at any point during the school year. Pysanky Egg Decorating Class for Kids with Mary Acton

Saturday, May 23, 9 am -12 Noon. Ages 10 and up. $40/$45. All supplies included. Students
will learn the art of Pysanky egg dyeing while creating egg ornaments. Participants may choose
from a variety of spring designs for their egg, or they may design their own.
