Children's Classes
Saturday Art Classes (for children 8-12): 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Fee: $20 for members, $25 for non-members



November 8:
Oven-bake Clay Cornucopias, Day 1 - oven-bake clay
Students will learn how to create clay coils, or logs, and form them into coil pots- or in 
this case, cornucopias. Student will learn about cornucopias and their history.

November 15: 
Cornucopias, Day 2 - acrylic paint

Students will receive their fired cornucopias, from the previous class, and paint them 
using acrylic paint. The paint should dry fast enough to take them home.

November 22: 
Gourd Burning and Painting - acrylic, wood burner
Students will each be given a dried gourd, on which students will be able to paint or use a 
wood burner. This class is suggested for students 10 or older due to precautions.

November 29: 
Decalcomania - acrylic and colored pencil
A painting technique often used by surrealist artists that is made “by chance” and then 
manipulated to create landscapes, objects, and much more.

    The cost is $10 per child, with a minimum of 10 children. The maximum party size is 20 children. Goodie bags may be added on for an additional $3 per child. Once the party date has been approved, a $50 deposit will be required to hold the date. The deposit will go towards the total balance due on the day of the party.     Each party will include a 2-hour time slot on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Guests will receive a stretched canvas painting (12" x 12" size, with a theme determined by the birthday boy/girl) and a small craft to take home. The Art Center will provide a picture frame photo booth for fun pictures of the children at the event, and a special gift for the birthday child. Jennifer Martin, the children's art instructor at the Chesterton Art Center, will organize and lead the party. While the Art Center will provide decorations for the classroom, the parents are responsible for food, drink, plates, etc., as well as balloons, if desired. 

The Chesterton Art Center is now hosting 
children's birthday parties for kids ages 3 and up. 
    Jennifer Martin will be starting children's art classes at the Chesterton Art Center on Tuesday, September 2 and will run through the end of the school year. 

    The goal is to introduce children to various artists, their styles and techniques, with projects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all ages and skill levels. Several mediums will be used including drawing, painting, papier mache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more. The schedule of classes is as follows:


                                Monday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 4-5 year-olds
                                Monday 3:30-5 p.m., Beginning 6-9 year-olds
                                Tuesday 1-2 p.m., Preschool 3-4 year-olds
                                Tuesday 3:30-5 p.m., Beginning 5-7 year-olds
                                Wednesday 3:30-5 p.m., Intermediate 6-11 year-olds
                                Thursday 3:30-5 p.m., Advanced 7-10 year-olds
                                Thursday 5:15-6:45 p.m., Beginning 9-14 year-olds
                                Thursday 7-8:30 p.m., Advanced 11-16 year-olds        
                           
    Tuition is $75 per month for after school students and $60 for preschool students. Supplies are included. There is a $5 a month discount for members of the Chesterton Art Center.

​During the month of November, the students in the children's art classes at the Chesterton Art Center will be studying the work of Mary Cassatt. The students will learn about impressionism, creating projects based around the topics of women and children, trying out pastels as a medium, and incorporating teacups - much like Cassatt.

Children ages 3-16 are welcome to participate and may start classes at any point during the school year. To see a full list of class times and fees, please look at the website www.chestertonart.com.
