The works of David Sander, (1923-1999) one of the founding members of the Chesterton Art Center and also the founder of the Chesterton Art Fair, were featured at the Chesterton Art Center in the month of November, 2010. Sander was well known in the area as an artist, musician, author, printmaker, and founder of the 60’s coffeehouse in Porter known as Saturday’s Child.
The 30-40 pieces of his work exhibited came from the private collection of area residents Jim Ruge and Roy Krizek. The exhibit featured both oil paintings from the 60’s as well as some of David’s later works in tempera. Jim Ruge recalled first meeting David many years ago when they worked on the Chesterton Art Fair together, and has enjoyed collecting his work since then. The Opening Reception for the show took place on Sunday, Nov. 7
