Jacqueline Gnott:
A native of Indiana, Gnott’s watercolor paintings start with the basic technique of
excellent drawing skills. From there, her paintings use layers of colors called glazes until
she achieves the desired results of paintings that are rich with color and filled with
luminosity. Often mistaken for photographs, her paintings are realistic, capturing every
detail. Her materials of choice are Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper that is stretched
before using, along with, Winsor & Newton Professional Grade Watercolors.
In her paintings, Gnott attempts to capture the significance and reality of one moment
in time and to study what appear to be the mundane objects of life, to explore the
minute details and to vividly express them on paper with the fluidity of watercolor.
“When people see my work, they often feel a sense of warmth and nostalgia,
remembering back to simpler times.” While Gnott’s subjects are commonplace, her
paintings are anything but. They show a mastery of light and shadow, and they have an
emotional quality that can be felt as well as seen.
Gnott continues to develop her skills and challenges herself with every painting she
does, and the collectors of her work have come to expect this exceptional quality. Her
watercolors have recently appeared in three national publications: feature article in the
Fall 2004 issue of American Artist’s “Watercolor” magazine; cover article in the
January/February 2005 issue of “Watercolor Magic”; and one of her paintings has
appeared in the February/March 2005 issue of “International Artist” magazine, in the
Showcase of Master Painters in the United States. While her talent and creative abilities
continue to win accolades across the Midwest, her true gratification comes from
watching people enjoy the treasures she creates. Gnott resides in Indiana with her two
German Shepherds, Thorn and Brier.
