The Chesterton Art Center is proud to announce the hiring of two new children’s art instructors.
The first new teacher is Emily Blossom. Emily grew up in the Duneland area, has taught art classes in Ft. Wayne, and has recently returned to Chesterton. Emily will be in charge of the preschool classes for children ages 3-5. Throughout her life, art has played an important role. “I have been painting and drawing my entire life. Helping children pursue their own creative journey is something I am passionate about. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my love of art with my seven year-old daughter, Betty. I hope to continue my artistic journey and help others pursue theirs.”
The instructor who will be teaching the elementary, middle, and high school art classes is Jen Aitchison. Jen loves working with children – sharing art skills, knowledge and time. She is joining the Chesterton Art Center to work with elementary through high school students. Most recently she has been the elementary art instructor for the Chesterton Montessori School. She has also found herself volunteering and working in the arts through the Chesterton Art Center, Discovery Charter School, and other community events over the years.
When not instructing children, Jen is a professional artist with her own small business, working as a graphic artist. Her work has been featured in many publications and blogs over the years. Painting, photography and exploring nature are Jen’s passions, which she enjoys on her days off when spending time with her family (her son, Ben, and husband, Colby, who is also a designer).
As a welcome to the Art Center and an introduction to the community, there will be a Children’s Art Education Open House held on Thursday, August 29 from 6:30-8:00 at the Chesterton Art Center. At the Open House, the public is welcome to meet the teachers, hear about the upcoming curriculum, see the classrooms, and enjoy some refreshments. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton, IN 46304.
