The Duneland Weaver’s Guild presented their annual show, Fiber Art 10, at the Art Center during the month of April. Their champagne reception was held on Sunday, April 11.
As always, the weavers had been busy creating beautiful handwoven wearables, wall hangings, linens, accessories, and more.
The Duneland Weaver’s Guild was formed in 1948. It currently has about 55 members who come from many directions, even as far as Western Springs, IL. There are many interests among the members besides weaving. The group consists of spinners and knitters, crocheters, beaders, felters and painters.
Meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month from September through May, from 10:00 am until mid afternoon at the Westchester Public Library Service Center located at 100 West Indiana St. in Chesterton.
This year the exhibit and sale of the guild members’ work ran the entire month of April. On display were rugs, table linens, wall hangings and clothing. The featured “challenge” this year was the Wall of Warmth, a wall of baby blankets that the members have created to be donated to an orphanage. There will be items such as ruanas, ponchos, coats, blouses, and accessories, as well as many other original works of art modeled by the members during their fashion show and then later included in the sale. For more information about the exhibit call the Art Center at 219-926-4711.
